In between some of the larger projects we have scheduled, we’ve been working on a series of accent pieces for the Southern show house we plan on opening in Beaufort, SC, later in the year. This week’s projects included an ornate cast zinc mantle and a floating table with a tin top.
The mantle was cast […]

CLP Design was recently featured in the August/September issue of Design NJ magazine for some work we did as part of the 2008 Cape May Designer Show House. Designer Jan Schmidt’s plan was to turn an empty third floor space into a study… and the outcome was stunning.
The article outlines the before and after of […]

Work in Progress: Stunning Zinc Desk

Sometimes we make things that are so absolutely amazing, we just can’t seem to part with them… and this piece is one of them.
The photography below shows the diversity of a piece like this.
This 3 foot by 6 foot zinc desktop is by far one of my favorite designs so far! It’s decorative […]

The Hamptons are infamous for beautiful vacation homes by the beach. Many people dream of owning one of these properties… And others dream of designing one. Personally, I’m not quite sure which would be better - Maybe if I could design my own? Recently we were given the opportunity to add our own personal touch […]

Just got some beautiful installation photos from a custom Lautrec style range hood with light weathered bronze finish we did earlier in the year. This hood was finished in a very light weathered bronze tone to set off the dark cherry cabinets and granite counters.

Last month, Chris and Randi took a three-day road trip with Jay Lowe up to the Brimfield Antique Show, the largest outdoor antiques market in the country. Picked up a truckload of antiques that we’ll be turning into furniture.

Elsewhere: Century-Old Zinc Planters

A pair of century-old small zinc planters for sale at Ruby Lane. Made by Ukrainian immigrant Samuel Galkin in Providence, RI sometime around the first world war. If the patina in the photos is accurate, I’d say these look like cast zinc with fairly large amounts of lead and copper — a very different composition than the material we use today. Still, this gives a good idea of the longevity of zinc.

Giving Credit Where its Due

In day to day operations, I get a lot of credit for the things CLP Design produces. While I certainly deserve some of that since I work hard and more hours than a person should or could, I have to say that I would be nowhere without the people pictured below and the great folks […]

New Work: Potenza Bar

Posted Jun 9 09 | No comments | Tags: New Work, Countertops

Earlier in the year, we worked on a zinc bar for the Potenza, a rustic southern Italian themed restaurant and bar in downtown Washington, DC. Early this morning, we stopped back in to inspect how the surface was holding and look at a few area which needed touch-up. Of course I took the time to snap some pictures!

A New Addition to our Outdoor Collection

Since the introduction of our zinc planters earlier this year, there has been constant brainstorming to broaden what we can offer within our outdoor furnishings collection. So, what have we come up with? We have partnered with a local architect to, once again, combine beauty and art with functionality (our specialty!), resulting in an up and coming project on new integrated zinc seating.

An overview of some recent projects in the shop: rounded zinc planters, cast iron table bases with pewter, glass, and soapstone tops, and a king-size headboard that’s to die for!

Another slip-cast countertop project

The largest piece we worked on in this room was obviously this bar area. The top bartop includes three zinc panels with a dark patina, while the back bar, one of our first slip-cast zinc countertops, has a deep relief acanthus-leaf pattern edge, a textured sink, and an interesting cutout to dodge the window frame at the end of the bar.

New Work: Muse Hotel

We were chosen to participate in the Puccini Group’s highly anticipated redesign of the Muse Hotel in Times Square. The new look, headed by senior designer Jane Humphrey, called for a lobby which overwhelmed and dazzled with a huge variety of materials, including assorted brass and bronze finishes throughout. Our contribution, a massive (4 feet deep by 8 feet long) mock fireplace hood, stood as a centerpiece of the entire area, as well as serving to separate the lobby from the bar area.
