CLP Design and Delaubrac on display at SIRHA

The 2009 Sirha show opened January 24th in Lyon, France; and for the first time we had an exhibit there. A customized Delaubrac 48″ range and a customized CLP Design production line range hood were shown as the centerpiece of Solymac’s display. We worked on a textured finish with an interference paint job for the range to offset a set of brushed nickel trim.

Sirha - International Hotel, Catering and Food Trade ExhibitionThe Solymac brand has been known for going all-out on displays in the past, commissioning well-known French painters to create photorealistic paintings on the faces of their displays and building futuristic island stoves, and we wanted to be sure to uphold the tradition. Although we started out with a much different plan for this display, involving metal ornament overload like we prefer on our hoods, we decided in the end to go for this deceptively simple look. The rough faux plaster texture looks straightforward… until you walk by the stove and see the play of colors in it. Walking by the range and hood, especially under bright trade-show-lighting, strokes of red, green and purple appear and fade back into the textured finish. This picture doesn’t do it justice at all. Ah well…

Cream white Hanging Gardens pattern hood over Cream CornuFé range

This display, from Artisan Kitchen and Bath in New Orleans, shows off one of our hoods in a classically Creole kitchen design. The vintage finished island with its walnut top set off all the tones in our hood and the Ivory CornuFé range nicely. Read more about the various elements in this display here.

Zinc planter boxes

After being contacted last month by an architect who works extensively on midtown Manhattan roof terraces about building planter boxes (the current source overseas was unreliable, expensive, and basically unimaginative in design), we started working on construction of a few sample planters. These massive double wall zinc constructions are solid enough to last many lifetimes, and we think their beauty speaks for itself.

Zinc planter boxesThe two boxes pictured are 30″ x 30″ x 30″ in dimensions, large enough to fill with a small tree. I think that what we love most about the project is the chance to show off our expertise in patinas. Check out the detail shot below. With enough concentration and focus, you can make zinc start to look like exotic quartz or granite with all of its veins and texture.

We will also be developing several other standard size boxes, as well as spun rounded flowerpots in zinc with a similar finish.

This 72″ wide, 35″ tall Cézanne frame was outfitted with dual Vent-a-Hood B200 motors for serious customizable extraction power. But the power inside is well hidden by the exterior beauty. Our Hanging Gardens pattern extends over the entire body, with a Fleur-de-Lis lip treatment below and a custom metal crown at the ceiling.

Hanging Gardens Pattern on Narrow Cézanne Frame

Black Hanging Gardens hood installed

An elegant treatment for a range hood to accent the Cluny range from Lacanche below it, this hood uses our standard Cézanne frame shape without the top lip to show off its pattern.

To meet the architectural requirements of the room, we built this hood with a hole in the left side to carry ductwork across the ceiling and out the side wall.

  • Frame Style: Cézanne
  • Dimensions: 36″ (h) x 39″ (w)
  • Pattern: Hanging Gardens
  • Lip Treatment: Trefoil Flowers
  • Finish Tone: Classic Black with Golds
