A New Addition to our Outdoor Collection
I spent a few minutes this afternoon leaning over the shoulder of our always busy CAD guy, Nathaniel (who actually does much more than just the CAD work on our designs) to take a look at some new stuff we’ve had our hands on recently. That’s another thing that took me just a few days to figure out… We seem to get our hands into EVERYTHING!

This is a rough concept sketch of a seating area in an outdoor courtyard. The zinc benches have integrated trays for growing wheatgrass in the armrests and the planters and table are built as modular components which can be stacked and arranged in a number of configurations.
And another! I love this! Contemporary in it’s style, and rather simple in design, I imagine this seating could fit ideally in most any atmosphere. A rooftop terrace in Manhattan, the courtyard of a corporate headquarters or a patio in the country by a lake or in the woods. That’s the beauty of zinc; As a living metal it ages gracefully and wears with it’s environment.
It’s only been a few short weeks since my first day with CLP Design and one thing that I learned almost immediately was that the thought process never ceases in this industry. At least not when it comes to this company; It truly is an ideal atmosphere for someone like me! Needless to say, I’m extremely excited to begin my journey here with CLP Design. I’m sure there will be a lot more than just that to learn.
Anyways, back the original reason for this post… (I must forewarn you, I tend to think too much and get carried away with things. I often find myself a little bit off track, but there is always some sort of logic behind every word I write. I promise.) :]

Since the introduction of our zinc planters earlier this year, there has been constant brainstorming to broaden what we can offer within our outdoor furnishings collection. So, what have we come up with? We have partnered with a landscape architect to, once again, combine beauty and art with functionality (our specialty!), resulting in this up and coming project. This seating incorporates tables, chairs and benches with our previously introduced planters to create a unique atmosphere far beyond anything I’ve ever seen before. And like everything else we do - It’s completely customizable! Who doesn’t love that?
So, what was the original inspiration for this project? A true artist, Chris was able to take a simple idea and completely transform it into something unique. The idea? Wheatgrass. Look at the sketches above and notice the recessed planter in the armrest of the benches. Maybe not the most obvious part of the design, but the perfect representation of where the idea came from—this space was designed exclusively for the growth of wheatgrass. Isn’t that what art is all about? The meaning behind a piece of work.

Chris found inspiration in the contrast between the patina of zinc and the bright green color and soft texture of the plant. Together, they are the perfect representation of nature and it’s beauty.

This is one of our planter boxes in a backyard garden setting. May in Pennsylvania isn’t the prettiest time for gardens, but this gives a sense of the possibilities.
Below are some images of our zinc planters. I love the shape and the contemporary feel. If I knew how to garden, these would be the highlight of it! But then again, who needs plants when you have something this beautiful?

I can’t even imagine how gorgeous this is going to be. I’ll be impatiently waiting to see the finished product.
