New and upcoming projects in the shop
Another week, another order of zinc planters complete and ready to ship. These rounded pots are slightly more expensive than the cube-shaped planters we’ve done before, but as accent pieces for a rooftop garden or a grand entrance, they’re well worth it. We’re gearing up for a major order of 135 zinc planters which will go to none other than Sasha Fierce herself… BeyoncĂ©!

In other news, we’ve had so much success working with Jay and Connie Lowe on their own house that we’ve managed to convince them to work with us on designing new home decór accents. Nobody has a better eye in picking out antiques to repurpose than Jay, and Connie has such a beautiful finishing touch with a paintbrush that it seemed like a shame not to promote their talents. We’ve posted plenty of photos of their amazing house here and here, but if you can stand to see more… just look at these tables we worked on:

This cast iron table base and chair were a wonderful antique find that perfectly fit the period and look of the sitting room. We refinished all the ironwork and briefly considered fitting it with a pewter top, before deciding that polished soapstone was a more appropriate feel for this room.

This is another beautiful cast-iron table base from the mid-1800’s. We polished and refinished the original to fit this simple mitered glass surface. We also worked with Jay and Connie to take molds of the legs, and recast a limited quantity with a variety of French-style pewter tops like this one:

Finally, on a more whimsical note:

This wrought-iron gate once stood over one of the employee entrances to United Fruit Company’s canning facility in New Orleans, and was later moved to Haymarket Square in Boston. With a lot of work and a delicate touch, we’ll be making it into a very heavy post-colonial king-size headboard. Remembering the workers’ struggles, living out some Carmen Miranda fantasies… or just making an ironic statement. We’re not totally sure.

There are dozens of pieces like these sitting in our scrap / inspiration bin at any one time… these are just the ones that have made it past the concept stage to actually get worked on. As far as keeping track of everything, not very well. Most of these projects have been talked about for six months before we got started. It helps also to have clients with open-ended concepts and loose deadlines.
