New Work: DC/NYC
Its been a busy month for us. These pictures are from a zinc counter we installed in the historic Woodward building in DC. We were working down there during inauguration madness templating and measuring, then had to rush to finish the counter in less than three weeks from the time the subtop was ready. Our part came out pretty decent, with the exception of a few corners where some contractor went in after us and ground our patina work to pieces - maybe thinking he was doing something helpful…?

Next week, we’ll be in Manhattan installing a giant hood at the Muse Hotel in Times Square. Pictures to come…

I’m currently working on my new concept for a Consumer Fridge that is fully Accessible and designed for the Aging Population with unique features not revealed as yet, but, I do have a Folder on my PC for the project I’m working on for a series of Fridges designed for about 4 major cities in the USA.
The one fridge I am proud of is my “New Yorker” that is based on the post-9/11/01 reality to get off Oil and bring jobs back to North America via the “Buy Americanism - Bye Terrorism” .
The N.Y. fridge theme starts with the Statue of Liberty interior with a subtle theme of the noted Bridges in the City area from the side profile impression to be applied to the inner Rack edge-trim visible by the opened door , the inside walls are in the Green aged Copper colour and I use the Lady Liberty forehead band ( minus the spires) as the rack supports anchors.
The fridge support pads are triangular and done as a scaled-down replica of the Shea Stadium with the Stadium facades appearing on the edges , the top of the Fridge may have a small replica of the Clock from Grand Central Railway Station .
As for the Kitchen design , I like the Hood idea for a Kitchen island because my plan is for a green Copper Hood for lady Liberty and a 3-4 inch edge band would also have a Gold trim embossed image of 4 N.Y. City bridges with one bridge highlighted for each of the 4 sides .
The actual Kitchen island will be a replicated impression of a New York transit Subway car from the 50’s or 60’s with the cabinet door done up as the Train Doors and windows via picture decals , one end of the island will have the Dual-Access/Pass-thru Fridge abut to it, and the other end will appear as the front view of the Subway car with lower LED lights angled downward to illuminate the floor at night via a motion sensor when entering the Kitchen.
The New Yorker concept is to reflect back on the roots for what made America great and that most people saw New York from the boat as they came there to seek a better life and later on saw lady Liberty after france shipped it over as a gift on the centennial in 1889 .
My website has some pictures of ideas for Kitchens with Islands and large Hoods , my own primative images of Hood examples shows how the Hood can extend over to include the fridge during the colour Theme as a package , it also is functional to draw away fumes and heat from a range or grille when installed but some end sections of the Island are eating areas not covered by the Hood .
If anyone has an interest for seeing the whole concept for a New Yorker Kitchen theme and fridge to see if you want to help me promote it , then email me for images of the Themes to let me know if it is possible to make an island to those specs and have a full Hood for a Consumer based fridge and Kitchen island.
The weight and exhaust systems for the Hood may have limits and become a decorative piece for a Food-Prep Island while the range is placed along a countertop unit with a 1/2 Hood wall unit that matches the New Yorker Hood in Green copper and bridge trim for the edging band .
BTW
I figured out how to build the fridge faster and cheaper while reducing the shipping costs as well , this allows for a good profit margin at the current wages for fridges built in the USA which means that the jobs do not need to be exported to Mexico because of the labour costs. The modular design allows for local jobs to supply parts to the Point Of Sale so buyers can choose metals or door colours and door Options like the Insulin Storage door and Kids Health Door .
